The Story of Smart Home Automation
Home automation: how did it start and where is it heading?
16:55 05 February 2018
It may not be obvious but the idea of building a smart home started in the early 20th century when appliances, such as engine-powered hoovers, washing machines and toasters were first introduced. Although they are not, by definition, smart gadgets, they have massively changed and improve the lives of many people.
Home automation reached a whole new level when fast internet connection was introduced. With this technology, smart appliances can be connected, allowing users to fully automate certain tasks and even allow their appliances to talk to each other to improve efficiency and productivity at home
Because of this, a smart home has been redefined as one that “incorporates advanced automation systems to provide the inhabitants with sophisticated monitoring and control over the building’s functions. Indeed, today’s technology is miles away from what would have been imagined in the past.
One technology that makes homes even smarter are voice control systems, such as Amazon, which was introduced to UK Homes in 2016. Such devices are designed to play music, answer any questions you may have and control other devices in your home. They have been proven to be extremely effective in making life easier.
