The Queen’s Coronation back in 1953 is definitely an event that is to be remembered for a very, very long time. For this spectacular event, cast of characters who were not seen since the days of Britain’s imperial glory came together.
Sixty years ago, millions of people who celebrated either at their home or street parties watched in awe as Princess Elizabeth was crowned Queen of England.
Those very few people who were invited inside Westminster Abbey, where the coronation took place, agree that the historic event is something that would never be forgotten.
The Queen’s Champion and Bearer of the Union Standard Lt Col John Dymoke clearly remember the event. He told The Mirror: “Naturally it was an experience to be had once in a lifetime. Never shall I see such regalia and a wondrous collection of fine jewellery, the banks must have been empty on this day....
Adding: “The Queen was magnificent and radiant and so full of grace and confidence.”
He described the event as “very great day of my life.”
