You know how it is when we see a movie we love, we just want more. And over the last few years there has been a bigger demand for our favourite movie characters to hit the small screen.
Over the last 12 months alone, we’ve seen both Lord of the Rings and Star Wars release TV series’ on streaming platforms, albeit to mixed receptions, while there are a number more movies in the pipeline to hit our TV screens, or should we say the likes of Netflix and Amazon Prime.
But what are the TV adaptations we’re looking forward to most?
Trainspotting
Trainspotting is a cult classic and it’s return for a second movie back in 2017 has only whet the appetite more for a return of the likes of Sick Boy, Spud, Renton and Begbie.
It was a no holds barred depiction of life in Edinburgh’s slums, with only Renton getting out of it in the first movie by getting the treatment he needed both at home and in a rehabilitation centre leading into the second film.
Rumours are circulating that Trainspotting could be making a return to our TV screens though, this time looking at Irvine Welsh’s follow-up novel The Blade Artist, which centres around Begbie and a new life he is leading. Robert Carlyle is keen to reprise his role, and it would certainly be one of the TV shows of the year.
Sexy Beast
Following on from the raw British, dark and gangster-like theme is Sexy Beast. The 2000 crime drama starred Ray Winstone and it’s back, and in filming ahead of a debut on Paramount+.
The TV show will act as a prequel, and stars James McArdle in the lead role alongside Emun Elliott and Sarah Greene, exploring the life of Gary Dove and Don Logan prior to the former’s retirement to Marbella.
A League Of Their Own
A League Of Their Own has yet to hit some countries and we can’t wait for it to go worldwide. The TV series, based on the Tom Hanks movie has premiered on Amazon Prime and is based upon a World War II era women’s professional baseball team. It stars Chante Adams, D’Arcy Carden and Roberta Colindrez and has enjoyed eight episodes in the series so far.
It received rave reviews, which is why we are still including it in this list, and we advise everyone to watch it as it has gone a little under the radar so far. You won’t regret it!
