Believe it or not, researchers are claiming that letting your partner sleep with other people could be the key to a happy marriage.
Eli Finkel, a professor of psychology, recommending ‘outsourcing’ parts of the relationship to make it work.
He explained: “It may be that your spouse is a terrific source of social support and intellectual stimulation but you haven't had sex more than twice a year for the last five years and neither of you thinks that's adequate.”
'So you could say that's one of the needs I am going to fulfill elsewhere.
'I don't recommend cheating, but an openly consensual non-monogamous relationship that may very well be functional.'
Meanwhile, related studies show that today’s couples spend less time together due to work demands and raising children. For this reason, they are struggling to create deep bonds needed for their individual expectations to be met. As a result, more and more people aren’t happy with their respective marriages.
Professor Finkel added: ‘It is not that people have stopped caring about love in their marriage but increasingly people think things like “Yes, I still love him but I’ m just not growing as a person’ I am stagnating and therefore I am going to leave the marriage”.’
