The new year is just around the corner, can you believe it? Before long, the New Year’s celebrations will all be over, the decorations will have come down, and we will be making our way into a new and exciting year. Before long, you’ll need a break from the daily grind, and what better way to do that than spend a little time playing some mobile games? Whether you like online slots, racing games, or shooters, there's sure to be something interesting coming your way in 2022. Many games from the last few years are still going strong, so expect to see some old favorites on the list!
Among Us
Though this game came out back in 2018, Among Us for mobile has dominated the scene for the last two years, and it's not going to stop any time soon. In the game, you and your astronaut pals need to work as a team to fix your spaceship, while in the background, secret saboteurs work against you and try to take you down. If you want to stay alive, you’ll have to watch each other’s backs. You’ll have to flush out those doing the damage and trust only those close to you if you want to succeed.
Arena of Valour
For PC gamers, the MOBA market has been taken over by League of Legends and Dota 2. For mobile gamers, there’s a little more room in the field, and Arena of Valour has come to take some of it up. The game comes to us from the Chinese company Tencent. The mobile version of the game is one of the best out there; you can enjoy this RTS game on the go and never miss a beat.
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Castlevania is back once more! Known not only as one of the most iconic games in the history of gaming but also now as one of the most iconic Netflix series ever released, Castlevania’s newest release is here for Android. You’ll play as the half-vampire Alucard, son of Dracula, as he slays the demon hordes taking over the castle and attempting to resurrect your father. This game features a fantastic array of RPG weapons, spells, and gear that are genuinely unique. The design of the castle is incredible and loads of fun to explore. You can learn a number of abilities, and you’ll have a long, long list of monsters to take on.
Chrono Trigger
This much loved and well-known RPG is here for Android. If you’re at a loss for a way to spend a few hours, why not set out on a time-traveling RPG mission? The combat is strategic and seamless, with incredible visuals and a lovely story to boot. This version is based on the Nintendo DS version of the game and features a much better story translation than the original version. While touch screen controls are still a little sticky, which can be frustrating as the game is very fast-paced, this game will keep you entertained for years to come.
Genshin Impact
If wild rides through fantastical worlds are up your alley, the Genshin Impact will be too. In this game, you find yourself in the mysterious realm of Teyvat, a place ruled by Ancient gods. You have no understanding of the world you find yourself in, but you must, nonetheless, journey across it to find your lost sibling, destroy any monsters that you meet along the way and help the people that you meet. Many have commented on the Legend of Zelda-like feel that the game has, and indeed its open-world environment does remind us of the classic. There’s a never-ending stream of new tasks to take on; the presentation is wonderful, the cinematics are of the highest quality, and so is the voice-over work. It’s free to play but does have monetized options.
Sky: Children of Light
Sky comes to us from a Thatgamecompany, which has already made quite a name for itself with the indie, artistic games Flow, Flower and Journey. Happily, this game is very family-friendly, which means that you can play it alongside your siblings or even your parents. The game features theme park type, non-linear levels, all created in a soft art style. You’ll hold hands and soar through the sky on your adventures; it’s a thrilling and adorable ride. You don’t communicate verbally but instead use various emotes, which means that the game connections you can span language barriers.
