The Benefits of Using Fluorescent Light Filters in the Classroom
Teachers enjoy considerable influence over what happens in their classrooms.

And why not? Nobody knows more about what will benefit students in a classroom more than the teacher. This includes the materials used and the environment, most notably the fluorescent lighting that bombards students and teachers daily.
When fluorescent lighting was introduced in the 1940s, it was hailed as a dramatic improvement over the incandescent bulb. In recent years, however, new research has pointed to several dangers associated with fluorescent lighting. Fortunately, there have also been a few studies that show the benefits of fluorescent light filters, such as those available at Make Great Light. Some of those benefits are discussed below.
Fluorescent Light Filters in the Classroom
Research conducted into fluorescent lighting in classrooms has given rise to concerns by educators across the country. These concerns have resulted in actions to reduce the amount of time students and teachers are exposed to fluorescent light. Unfortunately, replacing these lights with other lighting types would be an enormously expensive proposition, especially for school districts already experiencing budget shortfalls. For these and other jurisdictions, there has been another more practical solution: fluorescent light filters.
In only the past few years, classrooms across the country have used florescent light filters to significant effect. Fluorescent lights that are covered with light filters diffuse light rays more effectively, and they allow students and teachers to benefit from the health effects of reduced UV rays. This gives everyone who uses fluorescent lighting the benefit of not only a reliable lighting sources, but one that is safe as well.
Effects on Children and Behavior
In 2000, research conducted at St. John's University showed the effects of different fluorescent lighting treatments on students' behavior from preschool to college. The study found that by using products such as light filters on the fluorescent lighting in a classroom a dramatic improvement in the attention span and comprehension of students could be proven. Another study, this one performed by the California Energy Commission, found that the use of filters on fluorescent lighting improved student work and behavior to a great extent.
Since fluorescent lighting was introduced in the 1940s, it has proven to be an important source of reliable lighting. Unfortunately, just as is the case with so many other technological advances, it is not without its drawbacks. Fortunately, fluorescent light filters have also proven to be a reliable and cost-effective way to make what was a good thing even better. This has been proven to be true regardless of the setting, from classrooms to offices to homes. Further, as advances continue to be made in lighting technology, not only will improvements happen in practical terms, it will also be made in aesthetics.
Studies of this nature continue to show positive results from fluorescent light filters in the classroom. There can be little doubt that these results will continue with these products in the future. In fact, even as safe as ligting is now, advances in aesthetics and other factors are being made constantly.
