Professional sports organisations are one industry that continues to embrace technology, as it now has a big impact on a number of different sports. This is helping to take sport to new heights, through the likes of data to track progression within an athletes performance.
This performance is tracked through a number of devices such as on field cameras and devices that are embedded into shoes and helmets for example. This then gives the required information to coaches and managers, who can then quickly assess what needs to be improved both in the individual and in the team.
This is a numbers game using analysis, which is helping to improve weak areas within teams greatly. This is key to why the level of competition and quality continues to grow, as records continue to be broken across different sports year on year. An example of this is the Major League Baseball, who introduced Statcast. This is a system that uses cameras and radar equipment in each ballpark, which gathers and displays previously immeasurable aspects of the game.
As mentioned previously, this technology is making teams performance even better. An example being the Golden State Warriors who continue to be a leading team in Basketball. Punters are supporting them using a code for Videoslots, in which they are the very short priced favourites to win the Western Conference this season.
The son of the owner of the Golden State Warriors, was made assistant of the Santa Cruz Warriors. He used data and statistics to track players, which was being used as a test program for the Golden State side, as Santa Cruz are the Warriors G-League farm team. This program was a great success and helped the side to improve in all areas, as they made the finals in the first two seasons. This led to a similar program then being implemented by the Golden State Warriors, with his son then also joining the staff.
This system is now still being used by the Warriors in helping to dissect data on the strengths and weaknesses of each member of the side. This is used through a metric called EPV (Estimated Possession Value). This tracks all players with high tech cameras, and gives all the required data. This is just one example of how technology is impacting the success of one of the biggest sports sides in the world, in order to help them improve further.
