Suri Cruise's first picture

These are the first pictures published of actor couple Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' baby girl since she was born in April this year.

The cover photo shows Suri peeking out of a jacket worn by Cruise with Holmes looking on. "She has Kate's lips and eyes," the 44-year-old Cruise is quoted as telling Vanity Fair magazine. Counters Holmes: "I think she has Tom's eyes. I think she looks like Tom."

Since the birth, the 44-year-old movie star and Dawson's Creek actress Katie Holmes, 27 had not been seen in public with their new born child, sparking bizarre rumours about the baby's whereabouts.

The actress told how she has been hurt by the rumours circulating about her child and her relationship.

Miss Holmes said: "Some of the crap that's out there - the stuff that's been said about my parents and my siblings it's really frustrating the amount of s*** that's out there. And the stuff they say about Suri?! You shouldn't say that about us, and you can't say that about my child."

She explained that the gossip "eats away at me because it's just not OK."

Tom added of the media speculation: "We were just living our lives, being a family. Actually, we were taking our own photos and always planned to release those at the right time."

Miss Holmes also retorted angrily to reports she would had to remain totally silent during the birth, under Scientology guidelines.

"I was overjoyed at being pregnant, and then had to withstand ridicule about my pregnancy when it was the most normal, noncontroversial thing imaginable."

The actress described their shock when speculation about Suri's whereabouts mounted. Miss Holmes said: "This 'Where is Suri?' controversy. Tom and I looked at each other and said, 'What's going on?' We weren't trying to hide anything."

The couple wanted star photographer Annie Leibovitz to do the pictures for the October edition of Vanity Fair because she had photographed Mr Cruise's other children, Bella and Connor, who he had adopted with former wife Nicole Kidman.

Holmes says of her daughter: "She's a glorious girl. She's the miracle of our life."

The 22-page photo spread in Vanity Fair is on sale at newsstands in England on Friday.
