Superfast Broadband Heads to Rutland

Rutland is to benefit from Government's landmark £5B investment aimed at bringing super-fast broadband to rural areas.

Rutland is included in the list of rural areas set to benefit from the Government's landmark £5billion investment aimed at bringing super-fast broadband to hard-to-reach places in the United Kingdom. 

 

County MP Alicia Kearns (Con) said: "I’ve been lobbying for this ever since I was elected - and I’m delighted to be able to say that Oakham and surrounding villages will be among the first places in the country to get this, with the process due to start in October.

 

"This is great news for everyone in Rutland – and will turbocharge our potential for the future. This is, of course, on the back of Openreach bringing full fibre to almost 12,000 homes in Rutland.

 

"There is so much work going on regarding Oakham Medical Practice for everyone in Rutland who uses it. I am in constant communication with the Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) about how we can improve health services for everyone in the county. Funds have been identified to recruit more administrative and clinical staff to ensure that everyone who needs to use the practice is able to."

 

She added: "I’m sure you have seen the Lakeside Practice in Stamford’s inadequate rating in their recent inspection. This isn’t acceptable for anyone who uses Lakeside. Alongside neighbouring MPs, I have written to the Lincolnshire CCG to express my outrage at the failures at Lakeside, and my expectation that significant changes are needed in light of the problems facing that clinic. I will not sit back and let our communities rely on poor primary care. It isn’t acceptable for anyone."

 

"I had a good meeting with Uppingham First about the local priorities for the town. Now that we’re emerging from the pandemic, it’s so important that our high streets are thriving – for the community and the businesses. Uppingham, as we all know, is such a special place and we need to work together to make sure that the uniqueness of Uppingham isn’t lost. Uppingham was awarded £10,000 from the High Street Recovery Fund – a lifeline for the town."
