A British embassy vehicle has been hit in a suicide bomb attack in Kabul that seriously injured a number of staff members. Officials have confirmed that at last five Afghan civilians were killed and about 34 were hurt following the explosion that took place in the country’s capital.
The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The British embassy confirmed that no British diplomats were inside the vehicle during the incident, which took place in the eastern part of the Afghanistan capital.
A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: "We can confirm that a British Embassy vehicle has been attacked in Kabul. A number of staff have been injured.
"We are working with the Afghan authorities to establish details of the incident."
Meanwhile, Deputy Interior Minister General Mohammad Ayub Salangi has said foreign vehicles "were targeted by a suicide attacker on a motorcycle."
The incident is the latest attack in Kabul as the majority of foreign combat troops aim to withdraw from Afghanistan by the end of the year. Earlier, a series of attacks was launched by insurgents targeting military convoys and compounds housing foreign service companies and their international employees.
