Corrie stunner Nikki Sanderson sensationally quit the show last night - for love.
The actress has told bosses that she is fed up with playing the ditzy Candice Stowe but friends suggest that the real reason is her love for fellow Street actor Danny Young.
The 18-year-old, who played football wannabe Warren Baldwin, is heading for London this summer after being given the sack from the soap earlier this year.
And now Nikki, who has kept fans entertained by her recent on-screen efforts to be a weather girl, has decided to follow him and will be leaving Weatherfield in the autumn.
"Candice is a character with a great deal of ambition and we felt it was not believable that she would stay in Weatherfield forever," said Coronation Street producer Tony Wood.
"At the same time, Nikki has indicated that she wants to try her hand at other projects.
"It therefore suits Coronation Street and Nikki for the character to be written out this autumn. We wish her all the best."
The 21-year-old actress insisted that it was her career that forced her to quit, saying it was "high time" for Candice to leave the cobbles behind her.
"I am excited about what the future holds and I'd like to thank everybody for the fantastic time I have been given," said Nikki, who has played the hairdresser for six years.
However, a friend confided to the Daily Star: "The truth is that Nikki is quitting for love.
"She realises there's plenty of potential openings for her in London and that's where she wants to be with Danny."
