Staying Safe on the Internet - Interview with Lucas Mollberg

We now spend many hours every day connected to the web and use it for communication, shopping, entertainment, news, and pretty much every other aspect of our lives.

 

We know that the internet can be a dangerous place, however, with many people trying to take advantage in different ways. We talked to Lucas Mollberg, an expert in gaming, internet security, and social media, about the dangers that we face on the internet and the technologies that are keeping us safe. If you are unsure about how safe the internet today is, here is what he had to say.

 

Hello Lucas and thank you for giving us some of your time. Can you please talk to our readers about the main dangers that exist on the internet today? What should an average user be watching out for?

 

Hello and thank you for having me over to talk about this important topic. I think so many users, while surfing the web, forget that it’s not all 100% safe and protected. There are people out there looking to get their hands on users’ personal information, social security numbers, credit card numbers, passwords, and more.

 

What’s even more, most of us have encountered some type of a scammer in our time on the internet. Many times these scam attempts are very obvious and easy to spot, but other times they are more subtle.

 

You talk about our personal information being exposed on the internet. What can we do to protect it and keep it from falling into the wrong hands?

 

This is exactly where the modern technologies come into play. First of all, you want to only use websites that have SSL certificates, which means any information you send to them is fully encrypted. You will know the site is encrypted by looking at the address. You want to use sites that start with https (instead of http). These sites have the encryption tools in place that are necessary.

 

Apart from the encryptions, you can also use technology on your part to make your accounts better protected. A growing number of websites allow you to use your fingerprint to log in and this adds a whole other layer of protection. Using a two-step authentication is another great way to make sure your online accounts are fully protected from any hackers.

 

What about online scams? Is there a way technology can keep us safe from those or is this a case where we have to use common sense to stay safe?

 

Security technology on the internet is constantly getting better, but that doesn’t mean we can just lay back and act in unsafe ways. I would say you should never share your personal information with anyone who you don’t personally know very well, and you should basically never share your passwords or credit card numbers with anyone at all, barring the secure pages meant for such exchanges.

 

As owner of Casinoble, I have had hundreds of people come to me and say that they have had some kind of information stolen from them or they were scammed online. In 95% cases, they just shared their information semi-voluntarily. The technology exists to keep us safe from others, but we must make sure to stay safe on our side and not let strangers dupe us into giving things away.
