Star splits from fianc

Girls Aloud singer calls it a day after less than a year...

Girls Aloud and solo star Nadine Coyle has split from her American footballer fianc, Jason Bell, less than a year after they got engaged.

Coyle made the announcement via her Twitter page, posting:

"A few weeks ago Jason and I broke up.

"We are great friends and decided we are better this way. I'm in NYC working & I love all your support. x."

The 25-year-old star also added "aside from that, I am having a wonderful time with friends here", before posting several pictures of herself smiling on nights out around New York.

Thirty-three-year-old NFL star Jason proposed to Nadine back in September 2010.

She broke the news that she was engaged and showed off her ring during an interview with Radio One's Scott Mills, as she was promoting her debut solo album.

The record was released exclusively through Tesco and reached number 47 in the charts.

Fellow members of Girls Aloud, Sarah Harding and Nicola Roberts, are both set to release their debut albums later this year, while Kimberley Walsh is said to be concentrating on her presenting career.

However, Cheryl Cole, who has already forged a successful solo career, is contemplating her future after recently being dropped from the US and UK X Factor judging panels.
