Nick Hess who is featured on BBC Two’s World’s Weirdest Events, has a rare auto-brewery syndrome which ferment carbohydrates inside of him into alcohol. Prior to being diagnosed with the condition, his loved ones thought he was a secret alcoholic.
Nick, 35, said: “When she first accused me of being drunk, without drinking, I thought she was crazy. But friends and family thought, ‘maybe he is over there, drinking by himself, a secret alcoholic’.”
His worried wife Karen filmed his slurring and stumbling. “I looked into my eyes and could see I wasn’t there. It was terrifying, I couldn’t remember it.”
Later, it was found that he has auto-brewery and yeast levels that are 400per cent higher than normal.
He now controls it with card-free diet and medication
