Southampton City Council has approved Three's application to build a 5G pylon mast at the junctions of Hinkler and Bursledon Roads near Springwell School.
The proposal, which was submitted to the local council last May, includes an 18m monopole and a nearby equipment cabinet. Three's said the mast is a necessity to upgrade the company's network to provide improved coverage and capacity as well as deliver faster services and handle more data.
The local council has posted the planning notice on June 18 and at present, has not faced any local objections from residents. Similarly, the Environmental Health Service made no objections concerning the application which was approved on July 15.
Tory councillor for the Bitterne ward, Matthew Magee, said: “Me and my fellow ward councillors have had no objections. I have not had any.
“It’s absolutely essential that we have this sort of 5G coverage.
“It will be a boon for people on the estate.
“It’s necessary for an interconnected city.”
