South London DIsabled Drivers Helped by IoT

Sutton Council introduces the use of IoT sensors to help disabled drivers park in South London.

Sutton Council has recently launched a scheme aimed at helping disabled drivers park safely in South London. 

 

Working together with the IoT Solutions Group, the local authority will use IoT technology to gather data on disabled parking slots to determine ways on how to enhance the parking experience of disabled drivers. The gathered data, which includes usage, duration and frequency for which a particular disabled parking slot is utilised, will be used in the development of policies involving transportation and area development. 

 

The scheme, which is part of the 'InnOvate Project", will help the local authority to better understand the needs of disabled drivers and put them into consideration whenever any deliberations and mandates are made during road layout changes and area developments. 

 

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of IoT Solutions Group said that the firm's technologies and IoT devices support the council's efforts in implementing policies that are more economical. The firm's Chief Technology Officer (CTO) added that both the local council and disabled drivers will benefit from the scheme. The CTO explained that the data collected by IoT sensors will help the council determine whether disabled drivers will be disadvantaged when downgrading the number of vehicles in the area.
