Soul App has always placed great emphasis on the safety and well-being of its users as they interact and connect on the platform. In fact, to maintain its position as one of the leading Chinese social networking apps, the company has taken extraordinary steps to combat online fraud, enhance social etiquette, and curb cyberbullying. For Soul, the goal all along has been to create, nurture, and promote a secure and respectful digital environment.
Through its recently released 2024 Q4 Ecosystem Security Report, Soul App illustrated just how deeply the app’s management and technical teams are involved in living up to the platform’s vision of providing a community-driven, safe, and welcoming space for users of all backgrounds.
For example, one of the most pressing challenges faced by digital platforms today is the prevalence of online scams and financial fraud. In fact, these problems are so far-reaching and common that neither community governance nor technology alone is enough to handle them.
So, the team behind Soul App came up with the idea of pooling the platform’s resources with those of the app’s users as well as law enforcement agencies to tackle this menace. For starters, the platform’s online security team developed a highly sophisticated fraud detection system.
This includes top-of-the-line fraud detection tools that are powered by advanced risk control protocols and refined text recognition models. These tools analyze user interactions and identify suspicious behavior patterns.
When the system detects potential fraud, it issues warnings to the platform’s users in real-time, which helps users steer clear of these scams. Moreover, the system itself is continuously upgraded to ensure that the platform’s security measures are always a few steps ahead of everything that nefarious elements are capable of.
In terms of external collaborations, Soul App has strengthened its cooperation with law enforcement agencies. In the last quarter of 2024, the platform provided leads for four police operations and assisted with 24 investigations. Through these collaborations, Soul offered its contribution to dismantle criminal networks operating in the digital space.
And just how effective were these measures in enhancing digital safety? According to the statistics released in the report, Soul experienced a 20% decrease in fraud-related complaints and a remarkable 150% increase in the identification of fraudulent images, with an accuracy rate of 90%.
So, it can be safely stated that these measures were indeed successful. But, containing online fraud is just one aspect of creating a generally safe online environment. For Soul App, promoting civility and positive interaction is equally important, and this calls for more than technical safeguards.
What’s needed is a cultural shift toward positive social etiquette. With this goal in mind, Soul implemented a comprehensive framework to encourage respectful behavior and discourage disruptive conduct.
In an effort to cultivate a more civil digital community, the platform introduced and updated over 30 governance strategies in Q4. Features such as self-seen message filters helped to protect over 15,000 users daily from unsolicited harassment. Also, users were given access to enhanced message management tools that help them organize their conversations more efficiently and promote responsible communication.
However, on a social networking platform such as Soul, monitoring interactions is only one half of the safety equation; the other half is maintaining content quality. To control the type and tone of the content posted on the platform, Soul App employs an automated moderation system. This tool intercepted 4.36 million pieces of inappropriate content in Q4 alone, and it continues to be remarkably effective in handling objectionable words.
In addition to this, the platform stuck with its policy of strict penalties for repeat offenders, including device-level blacklisting. In 2024, Soul made a no-holds-barred effort to check the growing problem of paid dating services on the platform. This saw the removal of nearly 140,000 posts and the suspension of over 8,500 accounts.
Apart from the automated content moderation system, Soul App also relies on its members to vet the content posted on the platform. This community-led governance is a distinctive feature that emphasizes user participation in content management. In fact, this approach puts users in control of the content they receive.
Soul currently allows users to take on the roles of content recommendation officers and discipline committee members. These users handle a massive volume of 32,000 cases every day, which helps the platform enhance transparency and uphold community values.
Cyberbullying is another online safety-related issue that Soul App deals with proactively and with a multi-layered approach. A pervasive problem in the digital space, cyberbullying not only pollutes the overall environment but also causes significant emotional harm to victims. To address this problem, Soul uses a medley of technology, education, and community support.
By tapping into the power of artificial intelligence and big data analysis, Soul is able to monitor user interactions. These advanced technological measures enable the platform to catch instances of aggressive or harmful behavior in real-time. As soon as the system detects these issues, alerts are sent to users that nudge them towards more respectful communication. Most importantly, by intervening early, Soul minimizes the impact of negative interactions.
Like other safety and security-related interventions, these daily protection measures have yielded impressive results. For example, on a daily basis, Soul App:
- Prevents almost 3,000 cases of online abuse.
- Addresses over 1,200 instances of inappropriate private messaging.
- Sends more than 210,000 reminders promoting civil discourse.
Through these initiatives, the platform ensures that users can engage in meaningful conversations without fear of harassment.
Furthermore, educational campaigns are added to this mix to foster and maintain a culture of respect and understanding. The platform’s governance account regularly shares posts on community guidelines and safety protocols, which reach millions of users. These campaigns help to raise awareness about appropriate online behavior and empower users to contribute to a positive digital environment.
In 2025 too, Soul App plans to continue its crusade against cybercrime and unsavory online behavior. To do so, the platform intends to add to its already impressive arsenal of tech tools, deepen its partnerships with law enforcement, and expand its community-led governance initiatives.
