Sopranos creator finally reveals the fate of Tony Soprano - SPOILER alert!

Seven years after New Jersey mob drama The Sopranos ended, its creator finally revealed the fate of mob boss Tony Soprano.

HBO’s New Jersey mob drama The Soprano ended in what most fans would call one of the most divisive finales ever aired.

In June 10, 2007 the last episode saw Tony Soprano, played by James Gandolfini, his wife Carmela, (Edie Falco) and son A.J (Robert IIler) in a diner waiting for daughter Meadow (Jamie-Lynn Sigler) to arrive as tension built around the possibility that the family would be killed. Viewers’ television screens then turned dark for a few seconds and the credits followed leaving fans baffled.

The last episode certainly left several questions unanswered. Was Tony Soprano killed in a hail of bullets by other mob bosses massing against him or did he manage to get himself out of a tricky situation?

After seven years of wondering, fans are finally getting answers from the Sopranos creator David Chase. In response to writer Martha P Nochimson’s question: “Did he die?” The creator simply said: “No.”

She said: 'I had been talking with Chase for a few years when I finally asked him whether Tony was dead. We were in a tiny coffee shop, when, in the middle of a low-key chat about a writing problem I was having, I popped the question.

'Chase startled me by turning toward me and saying with sudden, explosive anger, "Why are we talking about this?" I answered, "I'm just curious." And then, for whatever reason, he told me.'
