Soap spoiler: Charlie Slater set to return to EastEnders

Classic character Charlie Slater will be back in Walford to visit his family, according to soap insiders.

Charlie Slater is coming back to Walford, it has been confirmed after actor Derek Martin stated that he will be returning to his signature role next year.

Martin, who played the cheery cab driver on the BBC soap opera regularly between 2000 and 2011, will appear in 'a handful' of episodes in 2015.

He told the Daily Star: ”In December and January, I am going back to make a couple of episodes. I don't know what the storyline is but I am booked.

“Charlie is living with one of his daughters in Manchester and I think I have gone on holiday somewhere, Lanzarote or something.”

The character was written out by then-exec producer Bryan Kirkwood, but he's popped up infrequently since then.
