Sonia Jackson is to make a one-off return the Albert Square in the New Year, it has been announced.

Natalie Cassidy is to reprise her role as Bianca JacksonÂ’s half-sister after becoming embroiled in an up-coming storyline.

Although the true reason why the character is to reappear is as yet unclear, it is thought that she will have a hand in a huge confrontation between her mother Carol and BiancaÂ’s step-daughter Whitney.

Currently, the pair are at loggerheads as Carol tries to warn Whitney about dirty-dealer Connor, who has dated both women.

According to Digital Spy, SoniaÂ’s return will answer Ricky and CarolÂ’s questions about BiancaÂ’s mysterious disappearance.

The storyline will coincide with Patsy PalmerÂ’s maternity leave.

An insider told Digital Spy: “True to form, Bianca has got herself into big trouble while trying to protect her family and, scared about what might happen, she does a runner.

"When she suddenly goes missing, Sonia turns up unannounced and drops the bombshell that she knows where Bianca is and what she is going to do next."
