A new research has found that some old healthy eating tips are totally out of date. Nutritionist Juliette Kellow sheds some light to help you make well-informed choices.
· When it comes to vegetables, some of us were taught that eating them raw means getting more nutrients. Juliette said that cooking some vegetables improves their nutritional content. For example, cooked carrots contain more beta-carotene that is crucial to a healthy immunity, eyesight and skin.
· Salad dressing – Research has found that adding full-fat dressings or fat-containing ingredients such as eggs and avocado helps the body absorb more cancer-fighting carotenoids such as beta-carotene and lycopene from carrots and tomatoes.
· Eggs – Contrary to popular beliefs eating more than two eggs per week has less impact on blood cholesterol or heart health.
· Water – Health guidelines say that, on average, women need 1.6 litres of fluid daily or eight 200ml glasses while men need around 2 litres. However, research shows that individual needs depend on our size, the weather, how active we are and age. Also, we don’t have to glug pure water as other fluid such as milk and fruit juices also count towards our daily fluid needs.
