Swedish firm Doro is about to launch a new range of phones specially designed for the elderly. The Doro Liberto 825, which features large buttons, specialist apps, easy menus, and loud noises, is coming soon according to the company’s website.
‘It's the first smartphone to think the way you do, making it the perfect choice for first-time users who want all the enjoyment a smartphone can offer, but in an easier, more intuitive way,’ the company says.
Unlike other smartphones, such as the iPhone, Doro Liberto 825 shows photographs of contacts, which can simply be pressed to call a friend or a family member. It also has easy to find icons for phone calls, messages and a camera. The phone also has functions that are specifically useful for the elderly such as an assistance button and hearing aid compatible apps.
Doro’s mission is to help make the lives of the elderly easier, safer and more fulfilling using available technology.
According to Age UK, 51per cent of people over the age of 75 live alone in England and some five million older people say television is their main companion.
