Smart Homes
Smart homes technology is literally the future!
11:17 24 April 2019
Often named Home Automation or Domotics, this special type of residence makes your home a place filled with secure, comfortable and efficient devices. These are no random devices though. Smart Homes come with smart app devices that are connected to the internet and carry out tasks. Some might operate together or share data amongst themselves for a better user experience. A home brought alive!
Decades before, automation and responsiveness were only on paper designs… or it was restricted to mobiles. In 2010, smartphones took a boom in sales and that was when developers worked on bringing everything possible on a PC, to the comfort of your mobile.
Music, pictures and games were now just few touches away! One could instantly connect themselves to a mobile gaming website and play Live Casino games on their screens. One such example, Magical Vegas Casino, was developed to be fully optimised for mobile. It features a range of casino and slots games, all made for your entertainment. If you want to try this site, feel free to grab your mobile and give it a go. Playing slots online at Magical Vegas Casino is one of the most interesting experience to have!
In 2019, games and mobile websites are innovating to keep up the trends. A breakthrough in the world of automation and technology was with the introduction of smart apps. Devices like Siri, Alexia and other AI bots can execute tasks, but the puzzle is not yet complete. The missing part of the whole grand design was a 1975 release of X10.
It is a communication protocol designed for home automation. X10 sends bursts of information onto a home’s existing wiring to programmable outlets or devices… AI bots, as an example! These signals convey commands to the devices and also instructs them on how to operate and when to operate. An example? The X10 protocol in a house can command a transmitter to stop and start the flow of current, leading to the turning on and off of an appliance.
But it cannot be that easy! X10 faced loads of issues. Often, the communication and signals would be lost, split or late to respond. Which is why, new companies decided to innovate and come up with efficient ways to carry out the automation process. ZigBee and Z-Wave are companies that countered the problems faced by X10 and emerged as one of the widely installed communication protocols to this day!
Stepping in this world of automation was Nest Labs. Founded in 2010, this company decided to bring the communication protocol to another level. It created the first smart smoke, carbon monoxide detectors and security cameras. Such was its success that it became a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc. and was acquired by Google in 2015.
Today, we are closer than ever to have fully automated homes. Voice recognition is just one of the many perks that would be found around smart homes. But the question of accessibility to these technologies and budgets are still being targeted by critics. Will the upcoming years manage to bring us more insights on Smart Homes? Only time will tell.
