Smart Greenhouses
IoTechnics partners with Advantech to design a smart greenhouse.

IoTechnics, an Internet of Things (IoT) consultancy firm and Advantech have partnered to design a smart greenhouse that was demonstrated at this year’s IoT Solutions World Congress.
The smart greenhouse, which features humidity, temperature and pressure and light level sensors, was presented to 13,000 visitors in attendance. It highlighted the many different aspects of building environment that can be controlled or automated with affordable IoT devices.
For their presentation, the data was transferred from Advantech’s cloud platform to Microsoft Azure IoT hub. It was then delivered in a simple user-friendly one-pane view on a dashboard application written by IoTechnics.
The dashboard was designed to chart the sensors’ data and allow manual operation of actuators. It can also be automated in which actuators are controlled by a set of rules.
Steve Cutler IoTechnics’ Principal Software Engineer said: “The greenhouse shares many similarities with other types of building including offices, schools, hospitals and warehouses. In nearly all cases there are a number of similar environmental factors that need to be sensed and a similar set of responses can be made to keep the environmental factors within acceptable limits.”
