Smart Complexes?
Smart home services are expanding into entire apartment complexes.
17:31 27 June 2017
With a growing demand and interest for smart homes, many companies are now exploring bringing smart home technology into entire apartment complexes rather than just single-family houses. This will help property managers to control hundreds of smart devices easily and efficiently while tenants will enjoy added convenience and peace of mind.
Vivint, a smart home provider that makes smart locks and security cameras, is one of the companies that are now expanding their reach into single and multi-family rentals. It offers a new service called Smart Properties that allows managers to design their own smart home system, which the company will then install. With this service, property managers can monitor smart thermostats, provide keyless entry for staff contractors, and take care of tenant service requests, among others.
The same service is being offered by Entrata, a software management software provider. The service is already being used in 3.5million apartment units in over 20,000 complexes. This means that property managers who are already using Entrata’s software for managing payments can just elect to enroll in the new smart home and Entrata will install a central hub.
