Slough CCTV in Top 100

Slough Borough Council's CCTV service wins Surveillance Camera Commissioner's own Code of Practice Achievement Award.

Slough Borough Council's CCTV service remains one of the best services operated by a local authority in Wales and England. Following an inspection by the Security Systems and Alarm Board (SSAIB), the local council's CCTV service has been chosen for the Surveillance Camera Commissioner's own Code of Practice Achievement Award.

 

Peter Webster, CCTV and Careline Centre Manager, said: "This accreditation is important to use and we have worked hard to achieve it for a second year."

 

The council's CCTV team, which works closely with Thames Valley Police, provides footage often use in prosecutions as evidence in court. It played a crucial role in a case involving a man who vandalised the WW1 Tommy soldier sculpture in the town centre last year. CCTV operators were able to record the incident resulting in the imprisonment of the vandal. 

 

Cllr Mohammed Nazir, cabinet member for housing and community safety, said: "There are many examples of where Slough CCTV evidence has been pivotal in providing an individual committed an offence but equally importantly, to demonstrate they are innocent as the case may be."
