British Airways set to be the first airline to use Europe’s first-ever 4G in-flight network.

British Airways will become the first airline to offer connectivity using Europe’s first-ever 4G in-flight network by the end of the year. Passengers will be able to use their own devices to browse the internet, stream video content, access email and log in to their social media accounts.  

 

The airlines also opened its first three automated self-boarding gates for UK domestic flights at Heathrow Terminal 5 with the goal to simplify and speed up journeys through the airport. The gates will use facial recognition when scanning boarding pass before allowing passengers to walk straight on to the aircraft.

 

The airline is also investing £400 million in Club World or long-haul business class that will feature a new restaurant-style premium service starting September.

 

From June, new catering will be introduced at Heathrow business lounges while a soft mattress topper and duvet will be supplied from July.

 

The changes will launch on flights between Heathrow and New York’s John F. Kennedy before being rolled out across the rest of the long-long network in 2018.
