David Beckham has been tipped for a New Year knighthood, according to reports.

Buckingham Palace is said to be 'under pressure' to honour the footballer in the New Year Honours List.

The Daily Star is even reporting that bookies have slashed their odds on David becoming a sir.

A spokesman for Ladbrokes said: "We'll be crying bigger tears than Beckham did in Birmingham when he is knighted.

"It's starting to look a certainty, and the only question now is when."

Beckham, who won the Lifetime Achievement award at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards at the weekend, received an OBE back in 2003.

Simon Cowell is also said to be among those tipped to make the list when it is announced on 31 December.
