Former Strictly Come Dancing contestant Rachel Stevens has been mugged in broad daylight.

Stevens, formally a member of pop group S Club 7, had her engagement ring taken outside her 800,000 flat in Regent's Park North London.

The singer was left shaken after three muggers took the ring, which her fianc Alex Bourne had bought for her, a necklace and a Rolex watch in the late afternoon.

Stevens' spokeswoman said: "Rachel did experience an intrusion and is shaken but otherwise OK."

The couple got engaged in June and are due to marry in France this August.

Police believe the gang had been watching Rachel come and go from her flat near Regent's Park, North London. Forensic officers were later seen dusting her front door for prints.
