A Manchester-based digital agency has recently launched schoolfinder.org, a website that helps ensure needy children still get fed over the school holidays. The move was inspired by Marcus Rashford campaign that focuses on distributing free meals to kids during half-term.
22-year-old Rasford began sharing the pledges via his Twitter account and has managed to convince thousands of cafes, restaurants and pubs across the UK to join in.
The website allows users to identify the 25 nearest businesses offering free meals during the holiday by simply entering their postcode. There are currently 1,000 businesses across the country listed on the website and the number is expected to grow as more pledges come in via Rashford's Twitter account.
Liam Bateman, chief technology officer at Silverchip, said: "The response of local businesses has been overwhelming, but with no directory, there was no clear way for people to find help near them,"
"Based on a simple postcode look-up, schoolmealfinder.org fills that gap, connecting people looking for help with those providing it.
"We really hope this will help people in need access support quickly, as well as making it easier for more businesses to get involved, simply by submitting their details."
