Singer Shakin' Stevens was rushed to hospital after he collapsed at home last week.
The 1980s chart topper, whose real name s Michael Barratt, was admitted for "exhaustion" his representative confirmed.
A spokesman told the Mirror: "He has been working very hard. He has been recording a new album that will be released next February and he has been under a lot of pressure to get it finished. He was admitted to the hospital four days ago.
However the 62-year-old star is conscious and doctors are "keeping an eye on him".
The spokesman said she had recently seen the singer who was "as fit as a fiddle".
She said: "He has been fantastic. I have seen a lot of him over the last few months. No one saw this coming. However he was under a lot of pressure with the album.
According to the Mirror, the 'This Ole House' hitmaker underwent tests for his heart in 2004, but the spokeswoman denied claims of an underlying medical condition that could have triggered the collapse.
