The former Beatle, and passionate vegetarian, calls on people to give up meat once a week in a jarring video message.

Sir Paul McCartney, one of the world’s most famous musicians (and vegetarians), has turned his hand to rapping in a video promoting his goal for widespread ‘Meat Free Mondays’.

The passionate vegetarian and Hey Jude hitmaker recorded a video message that descended into rap, calling on people to give up meat at least once a week.

The 51-second video begins with a simple message appealing to people to pledge their support to the Meat-Free Monday petition.

In the video, he says: ‘I need your help, all I want you to do is just log in on pledge.meatfreemondays.com and pledge your support to the idea of meat-free Monday.

‘I need your help - please do it. We’ll send all these pledges to the politicians, and then they’ll do something about it.’

He then ends by rapping the web address in an accent, saying: ‘Pledge.meatfreemondays.com, pledge.meatfreemondays.com. You can do it right now please.’

The Meat Free Monday movement’s goal is to cut out animal product from the human diet to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Among those who signed up to the pledges are Gwyneth Paltrow, Mark Ruffalo, Kevin Spacey, and Ricky Gervais.

The summit is being held to jump-start the climate negotiations that are due to conclude with an ambitious global treaty in December 2015.
