The controversial Argentina player has been accused of battering his partner who can be heard in the footage pleading 'stop hitting me'.

Football icon Diego Maradona has been caught on film apparently beating his girlfriend after she ignored him and continued to use her mobile phone.

The athlete appears to get up from his seat, storm over to his 230year-old partner Rocio Olivia and knock the phone out of her hand, seemingly unaware that she was recording a video with it.

“Keep looking at your phone, keep looking at your phone…” he allegedly says in Spanish.

After he hits the phone away, she can apparently be heard responding “What’s wrong with you, you crazy… Stop hitting. Stop, stop, stop,”

However, Maradona denied that any physical violence was taking place. Quoted by The Telegraph, the player said: "I sent the phone flying but I swear by my children that I never raised my hand to a woman.

"I admit I knocked the phone out of Rocio's hands but there's nothing more to it. The situation didn't continue. The story starts and finishes there."

The couple began dating last year and got engaged earlier this year.
