British street artist Banksy, who has been in New York completing his new project of painting a new piece of street art every day, has sold many of his original signed canvasses that are estimated to be worth £20,000 each for $60 (£38).
The elusive artist posted a video in his website and wrote: "Yesterday I set up a stall in the park selling 100% authentic original signed Banksy canvases. For $60 each."
Underneath the video, Banksy added: "Please note: This was a one off. The stall will not be there again today."
The video was showing an old man selling his original signed canvasses. He made his first sale in mid-afternoon when a woman bought two small canvasses after asking for 50per cent discount. Another woman from New Zealand bought two paintings and a man from Chicago bought four. The last buyer said that he recently moved house and just needed something to put up on the walls.
In his recent interview, Banksy talked about his month-long trip to the city and his project there. He said: "I know street art can feel increasingly like the marketing wing of an art career, so I wanted to make some art without the price tag attached.
"There is no gallery show or book or film. It's pointless. Which hopefully means something."
