Six months' worth of scripts have been stolen from EastEnders, reports indicate.
A burglar reportedly took a laptop computer and notebooks containing confidential information from the house of a senior member of the EastEnders' production team.
The nature of the theft has lead police to believe that thieves might have targeted the house because they knew who lived there.
"It is the belief of the police that this gang knew exactly what they were after. The notebooks and laptop contained detailed information on forthcoming storylines and other production details," an insider told the Daily Mirror.
Plots to the soap are rarely set in stone ahead of filming and have recently been re-written after Jessie Wallace, who plays Kat Slater, took two weeks off following a health scare over her unborn baby.
Nevertheless the Mirror's source added: "It is highly embarrassing . . . bosses love to keep the viewers guessing and they will be absolutely furious if the storylines leak out."
A spokeswoman for the BBC soap commented: "A senior member of the production team was burgled on Monday night.
"It is now a police matter and we cannot confirm any further details."
