Schumacher 'in great hands' at specialist Swiss hospital

On Monday, former F1 star Schumacher was transferred to a Swiss hospital, which is close to his home.

Veteran Formula one champion Michael Schumacher's family and friends believe that the racer is 'in great hands' now that he has been transferred from the French hospital where he stayed for six months since his skiing accident in December to a Swiss hospital, which is close to his home. 

 

A member of staff at Lausanne University Hospital said: "Hopefully he will get better. I don't know. I don't have any prognosis. He is in great hands and let's hope he will get better."

 

His manager, Sabine Kehm, confirmed that the 45-year-old is no longer in a coma but refused to provide more details about his condition or medical outlook. However, it was stated that Schumacher will “continue his long phase of rehabilitation.” 

 

Meanwhile, another employee from the Swiss hospital said: "I think he needs to be alone with his family, and to cure and to take some energy to be himself again."

 

Schumacher got involved in the skiing accident while on a family holiday at the Meribel ski resort in the French Alps. At the time, he was with his 14-year-old son. Reports suggest that the F1 champion was travelling at speeds of up to 60mph off-piste when he fell and hit his head on a rock.
