Sarah Michelle Gellar could sing on screen for the second time after it emerged she is in talks for a new musical.
The film is to be helmed by "Donnie Darko" director Richard Kelly.
Gellar struck a chord with viewers when she sang in a musical episode of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". The success of the episode was so great that the songs can be bought on a specially released album. It is the only episode of the show that can be bought as a stand-alone DVD.
"Southland Tales", Kelly's follow-up to directorial debut "Donnie Darko", is set four years in the future and amidst a three-day heatwave in Los Angeles.
Jason Lee, Sean William Scott, and Kevin Smith are linked to the movie, according to industry mag Variety.
The music for the film may well be written by Moby, as he is also reported to be in discussions with Kelly.
Kelly described his new project as a musical "in the postmodern sense of the word".
"There will be some dancing and singing but it will be incorporated into the story in very logical scenarios, as well as fantasy dream environments," he commented.
