Samsung introduces SmartThings WiFi

Samsung introduces SmartThings WiFi, a new mesh network system that doubles as a SmartThings Hub.

Samsung has recently introduced SmartThings WiFi, a new mesh network system that improves on traditional routers by having multiple access points that blanket the home with coverage. The three-node system supports up to 4,500 feet, while a single node covers up to 1,500 square feet.

 

Unlike Google WiFi and Ubiquiti’s AmpliFi, the three access points in the SmartThings system can act as the primary base station. Each node can broadcast dual-band WiFi with MU-MIMO tech. The system meets the 802.11ac AC1300 WiFi standard. However, the maximum downlink and uplink is capped at 866Mbps on 5GHz and 400Mbps on 2.4GHz.

 

The system’s hardware is mostly provided by Samsung while its “adaptive WiFI” management system is handled by Plume. Adaptive WiFi manages the network and optimizes the connection for each device. A user can set up the system via the SmartThings app or the Plume app.
