On March 4, former double agent Sergie Skripal and his daughter Yulia were poisoned in Salisbury. Surveillance footage that may have been captured by Salisbury’s state-of-the-art CCTV network is hoped to provide critical evidence to the case.
Early images captured by a private CCTV shows what was believed to be the former Russian double agent shortly before he fell critically ill at Salisbury’s Maltings shopping center.
The case is currently being investigated by British counter-terror police. Mark Rowley from the agency said that everything possible was being done to find out who was responsible for the incident. He added that ‘hundreds of detectives, forensic specialists, analysts and intelligence officers are working together around the clock on the case.'
The CCTV system, which is currently being run by Wiltshire Council, was working and operational on 4 March, it has been confirmed. Matthew Dean, leader of Salisbury City Council, said that previous CCTV issues had been fully resolved around a month ago and that a great deal of high quality footage had already been handed to police handling the enquiry.
Councillor Dean also confirmed that camera footage had been shared to the authorities on Monday (5 March).
