Salford 5G Mast

A new 20-metre 5G mast will be built on the East Lancashire Road, near Mosley Common Road.

Three has been given the permission to build a new 20-metre 5G mast on the East Lancashire Road near Common Road. 

 

Salford's planning panel approved the application on 4 February with one Conservative councillor voted against the plans. Ellenbrook councillor Bob Clarke, who represents the area in which the phone mast would be located, did not agree to the location. He also described the structure as 'ugly'. 

 

The plans will push through despite objections from residents, including one who had recently move out of the city due to being 'self-diagnosed allergic to the electromagnetic field.' 

 

However, council officer Amy Smith explained that the planning regulations consider only two factors - appearance and location. She added that the risks from 5G exposure are low. 

 

She said: "Public Health England take a lead on the health matters and their guidelines are that 5G exposure is expected to remain low and there should be no consequences on public health.

 

"The frequency that 5G uses is on bands that are non-ionising and essentially that means they do not carry enough energy to cause direct cell damage.

 

"But again, that said, it's Public Health England that take control of those matters. We can only look at the siting and appearance of the development."
