Top Coronation Street stars Debra Stephenson and Nikki Sanderson are rumoured to be quitting the soap.

The glamourous actresses have reportedly told a Sunday newspaper that they are thinking of waving goodbye to Weatherfield for good.

Sanderson, who plays beauty-obsessed hairdresser Candice in the show, is reported by ITV news as saying: "My contract is up in September. At the end of the day, an actor's life is one where you do go from job to job. People understand it."

Friends of the actress say she cannot bear the thought of being parted from boyfriend Danny Young, who plays her on-screen love interest Warren Baldwin. It has been reported that the actor is leaving the soap in July.

ITV news also reports claims that Stephenson, who plays Warren's mother Frankie, is planning to quit the show.

The star, who recently took part in the TV talent show Celebrity Fame Academy, is rumoured to be planning a pop album, having been approached by three record labels.

"I'm not going to turn this chance down," Stephenson is reported as saying.

"The idea is to get an album of songs together. I already have one I did for a hobby on the internet."
