Stone Roses comeback claims rubbished...
09:09 08 April 2011
Reports that Manchester band the Stone Roses are to reunite have been rubbished as "fantasy" by the group's bassist.
Gary 'Mani' Mounfield said that band members had instead gathered for his mother's funeral.
The appearance of Ian Brown and guitarist John Squire had sparked rumours of a reunion.
Mani said of the speculation:
"Two guys who haven't seen each for 15 years, like people do at funerals, came to pay respects to the bassist's mum and now all this.
"It's totally fantasy island gear."
The Stone Roses, one of the pioneering groups of the 'Madchester' movement, went their separate ways in 1996.
In 2009, Brown said that the band wouldn't reform in the "next three lifetimes", a statement which was reiterated by Squire later that same year.
