Home automation will soon become the standard, experts predict.

The connected home is here and it is being warmly embraced by both millenials and baby boomers. Due to several advancements in this field, the technology has evolved and is now more than just turning on lights with a voice command and answering the door without leaving your seat. Its offers safety, energy-saving features and convenience.

 

Stacey Higginbotham, a technology expert and host of the Internet of Things Podcast, predicts that while it might be new to some people, “it’s going to be everywhere soon enough.” She added that within the next couple of years, most new-home construction will come equipped with smart features such as keyless locks and video doorbells, smart alarm systems and thermostats, and various entertainment features.

 

Meanwhile, a Houzz Smart Home Trends Survey said that home automation may take some time getting used to but once on board, users reported greater levels of satisfaction with their upgraded smart features than their non-smart features.

 

Another research by Wakefield Research found that more people don’t mind paying more for smart features. The report said that eighty-six percent of millennials and 65 percent of baby boomers are happy to pay an additional 20 percent to rent a home outfitted with remote-controlled devices or automated features.
