Internet searches for remote working technology have soared by up to 97per cent due to the coronavirus pandemic, a recent research by Iomart has found. The Glasgow-based computing company said that searches for Zoom have increased by 97per cent since January. Internet searches for Office 365 and Skype also jumped by 46per cent and 18per cent, respectively.
The research was conducted during the second week of the Government-imposed country-wide lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic. With strict social distancing protocols currently in place to avoid the transmission of infection, many businesses are forced to allow their employees to work from home.
Remote working technologies, such as Zoom and Skype, offer businesses cost-effective communication and collaboration solutions for remote employees.
Iomart senior marketing manager Thomas Lynch said: "Our analysis of the Google search trend data shows that the demand for office solution software is huge to the monumental increase in remote working due to the Covid-19. In the last month alone, we have seen a huge 663per cent increase in unique visitor traffic to our Virtual Desktop service page alone, and a further 205per cent increase in traffic to our Office 365 product page, both of which offer cloud-based solutions."
