Modern day living has always been associated with high level of stress. Juggling the pressures of work and parenthood and trying to find time for your own needs can be quite a huge feat these days. Medical experts consider anxiety disorders as a serious condition as it can be debilitating, leaving sufferers filled with dread, worry and fear. It can also seriously damage friendship, career and even relationships.
If you’re struggling with anxiety and want to break free, take advantage of the following tips by Dan Regan, an anxiety management specialist and hypnotherapist.
· Lessen the time you spend on social media – Social media is filled with two types of stories: those that make the world seem like a dangerous place to live in and stories of those people who seemed to have a perfect life. Both can make you feel negative emotions so cut down the amount of time you spend on social media.
· Go out and exercise – Simply going out of your house and doing something active can help you normalize your emotional state. Instead of fretting of what lies ahead, take a walk or hit the gym.
· Perform breathing techniques – These techniques trigger your biological relaxation process by extending your breath.
· Shift your focus – Anxiety often leads you to think of the worst possible case scenario. Instead of worrying your life away, assess the situation and be objective about it. Recognise that the worst case is not the only possible thing that could happen.
· De-stress your mind through meditation, mindfulness or relaxing music at least 20 minutes each day.
