R&B singer Kelis has given birth to a baby boy.

The 'Caught Out There' singer went into labour on the same day she was due to attend a court hearing over her divorce with the child's father, rapper Nas.

However the hearing was rescheduled under the circumstances.

Kelis and Nas married in 2005 but filed for divorce in April citing "irreconcilable differences".

According to a source, the rapper was not present for the birth at a hospital in New York.

The source, a friend of Nas, said: "It was his intention to be there for the birth, but unfortunately he has not been allowed to be present.

"While this is clearly heartbreaking to him, Nas continues to offer his support and love to his new baby boy and his mother."

Kelis named the baby boy Knight.
