The tots test
A study from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, a group of 32 industrialised nations, has revealed that British parents pay the most for childcare over any other country in the developed world.
A third of a family's entire income goes towards nurseries and childminders. This represents almost four times the cost in Germany and three times that of France, and can reach £20,000 per child.
Brits can expect to part with 33% of their income, while those in Portugal pay out 4% of their wages. The OECD average is 13%.
"The crippling cost of childcare in the UK means that many parents are finding they are financially better working only part-time or not at all, and children are missing out on the proven benefits of good quality early years education," said Kate Groucutt, from the Daycare Trust charity.
But not all children grow and progress at the same pace. Every parent worries that their kids are falling behind in developmental milestones. Try this quick quiz and see how much you know about your child's development.
