Quadrophenia star Phil Daniels will join EastEnders next year as Kevin Wicks, the BBC has announced.
The character, a family man, will arrive on the show in early 2006 in pursuit of son Deano (Matt Di Angelo).
"I am very happy to be joining the show especially as my mum is a big fan," said Daniels.
Executive producer Kate Harwood said: "Phil Daniels is an extraordinary talent. It is a real coup to have him join the show.
"The Wicks family is going to be a force to be reckoned in Walford next year."
Daniels, 46, starred in acclaimed mod movie Quadrophenia in 1979.
He has since appeared in films including Breaking Glass and Bad Behaviour as well as the Mike Leigh drama Meantime and the BBC series Outlaws - not to mention performing with Blur on their hit 1994 single Parklife.
