Justin Bieber’s once clean cut image has taken another step towards dangerous rebel status following his arrest for drag racing while intoxicated in Miami.
The Canadian was detained on Thursday night and granted a $2,500 bail for driving while under the influence of alcohol, marijuana and prescription drugs.
The Miami Herald claimed that Bieber’s entourage had blocked off a long stretch of road on either side, effectively creating a drag strip circuit for him and his friends to race on. Bieber was behind the wheel of his yellow Lamborghini against a red Ferrari driven by an R&B singer.
"During the investigation Mr Bieber made statements that he had consumed some alcohol, that he had been smoking marijuana and consumed some prescription medication," said Miami Beach police chief Raymond Martinez.
"They were starting from a stop position and they were accelerating to a high rate of speed, going almost double the speed limit... in that area."
Just hours after his release on Friday, the 19-year-old singer was reportedly pictured in another bar.
Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun took to social network to comment on the events saying: "@justinbieber love you and i will act in the manner of someone who truly cares. that is all I have to say. thanks for all those concerned."
A few hours later, he added: "Been a long day. Bottom line is we are defined by how we handle adversity. Be there when it counts. Love fully in good times and bad."
