Desperate politician jumps through ring of fire in a bid to show his constituents how determined he is to win seat in Parliament.

A desperate politician, Chen Mao-chia, who is hoping to represent Xinzhuang District in Taiwan’s Legislative Yuan next year, showed his constituents that he is determined to win the incoming election by ... jumping through a ring of fire three times!

 

Surrounded by a small group of supporters, Mr Mao-chia takes a run-up before jumping through the first and doing a forward roll onto the crash mat to break his fall.

 

He performed his rather tame stunt at his former school, Xintai Junior High School with the goal to show voters he'd do anything to get the job.

 

Mr Mao-chia is the legislative candidate representing Taiwan’s ruling Kuomintang (KMT) party.

 

Come January's presidential election, power shift is expected in Taiwan with observers predicting a landslide victory for the opposition Democratic Progressive Party. The party's chairman, Tsai Ing-wen, who, should she win, will become the first woman in the country to hold the office. Incumbent President Ma Ying-jeou has been losing supporters after being accused of keeping dangerously close relations with mainland China.
